Pros

-Flexible work hours Even before the pandemic the culture is pretty supportive of people working when it is convenient for them. You have to leave to go pick up your kids, or go to a doctors appointment, no problem. -Work from home Location flexibility was already a big plus. If you are luck enough to not be on the client site, you can work from home 100% of the time if you would like. - They respect your career A struggle of consulting is that there are good projects and bad projects. Unfortunately the bad projects tend to go to junior hires. However I have found that the staffing team especially at the smaller offices genuinely try their best to get you staffed on the projects you want. I think there is a good mixture of nice people and industry pressure to keep putting their working on projects that will get them to stay at the company. - Challenge work As I said before, getting on good projects can be a bit of a dice roll, but I have found in my own experience that a majority of the projects I have been on were challenging. I get to spend my day thinking critically and solving problems. You tend to get staffed on projects that are just far enough outside of your comfort zone that you are able to succeed, but have to learn quick. - Smart people Smart and helpful people work here. If you ever can't figure something out you can always reach out in the developer channel and ask (has anyone ever done x with y software? And people you have never met or talked to will hop on a call with you to try and help solve your issue.

Recruiting - CapTech recruitment is very homogeneous. This company does almost all of its recruiting from the same 4 colleges in Virginia. On top of that, they tend to recruit from the frat/sorority crowd. Before the pandemic all work events had alcohol, CapTech pays enough money that they have box seats at UVA basketball stadium, I wonder why all these party bros want to work here... My hope that the pandemic has helped the culture shift way from its previous normal. Due to the pandemic most work social events were put on hold, and now the company has the option to recruit from anywhere, my hope is that we see more variety in those coming to work here. Pressure to work more than 40 hours - The more important a project is at CapTech the more people you find regularly working more than 40 hours. While no one has ever forced me to work more than a 40 hours a week there is a culture where working overtime is encouraged. The system is supposed to work so that if someone works overtime, they will bill those hours and at the end of the year they will get a larger bonus because of it. In practice what people do is work more than 40 hours, but only put in 40 hours on their time card (because actually billing overtime cost the client money). My advice is don't fall into this utilization propaganda. Do your 40 hours of work, and don't feel pressured to get involved in internal activities. You are allowed at CapTech to have a good work life balance. The only way to get there is to say no often. The opposite is true as well, if you want to say goodbye to your friends and family and be a "go getter" I am sure you will get a bigger bonus. At the end of the day CapTech pays good wages, so don't waste your time chasing after money that is not guaranteed.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this review. I’m happy you are enjoying your experience as a CapTecher and finding your work both challenging and rewarding. Flexibility, as you have noted, is something we hold in high regard as a pillar of CapTech’s culture. Thank you for the feedback around our recruiting process as this is something we continue to focus on and evolve. In fact, our recruiting team posts all college positions nationally, reaching college students across the US, while having a physical recruiting presence on campuses that are close to all of our 8 office locations. Our last couple of recruiting seasons have had an amazing variety of schools represented – close to 20! We also want to emphasize that we do not support our CapTechers “ghosting hours.” We rely on accurate billing to determine if our projects are staffed adequately and so that our CapTechers can maintain a positive work-life balance. Please work with your Account Manager to ensure you are billing all the hours you devote to your client work. Thank you again and please feel free to reach out to me directly (kapostolides@captechconsulting.com) if you have any questions or would like to discuss anything further. -Katy Apostolides, HR Director
