Fun and fast-paced work environment

This job was a slap in the face as I started my post-college career. It was sold as a "fun" opportunity, and I felt like a perfect fit, but as I settled in, that turned out not to be true. Very competitive environment, which some people like, but it's not my cup of tea. I felt very sad and discouraged all the time. It's so much new information to learn at once, and after the first month, I felt like the management team set me up to fail so they could get rid of me. Their headquarters and new employee training were fantastic, though. It could be a good fit for some people, but not for me. I was a high performer in college, but this was a rude awakening.

This company relies on growth from within, so if they see potential in you, they will help you get to that next level. There is always a huge support system around you at all times.

The amount of support can quickly turn into micromanaging, and promoting from within is great until you start protecting those who earned their title sheerly through tenure or a 'good ol' boy' system. Also, the pay is abysmal. They pay you the absolute minimum in salary and the rest is based off of commission, so even the best reps can lose everything on a clients whim, going from making almost $200K a year to $30K in the blink of an eye. They say they have protections in place for that but that's only for the people who earn the company millions of dollars for 4 consecutive years. Also, there really is no such time as a work/life balance here. They throw parties to make you think you do, but if you are out on PTO you will still be judged by your KPI's while you were out, and they expect you to pick up the phone, regardless of if you are on vacation or at your grandfathers funeral. "Still gotta keep you numbers up!"
