Pros
- Being able to work with several interesting technologies (OpenStack, Kubernetes, machine learning, Ceph, InfiniBand) - Team is open to change. If you don't like how something is done or how something works, you can propose changes. If your proposal is accepted after discussion, the change is implemented. - Smart and friendly colleagues who are keen to help out - Nice to know that your work is being used to run (sometimes HUGE) clusters in many big name companies around the world - International atmosphere - Flexible working hours - Strong focus on customer satisfaction. As a result, our customers love the product and the support (which gets verry high customer ratings)
Kontras
- New hires are mostly selected on technical skills, and not so much on personality. In the past this has resulted in some people joining the team who did not really fit in very well (and who were mostly quick to leave the job). Job interviews should not just be done over Skype, but also in-person. - As the company grows, it feels like some of the flexibility is getting more restricted out of fear that it is being abused by some. - Office is in a building that has 'top cooling' instead of proper AC, so on warm days in the summer it can be uncomfortable. - Senior management is in the US, which sometimes leads to communication culture incompatibilities with European team members - The company has gone through a number of changes in sales strategy over the last 2 years, which has caused disruption as some people in Sales had to be let go. For a while there was some negative sentiment around this also in the technical team (although this team itself was not affected). - The codebase is huge and has a long history, so there is/was quite a bit of technical debt. Only after many people complained about this, we now finally have time to modernise/refactor/rewrite code and get more serious about CI testing. - The product can be used in many different scenarios and configurations, which makes it very challenging to guarantee that everything is working properly. Release processes can take a long time.
