Pros

-Working in one of the most reputable landmarks in the city is neat. -Books and no late fees -Health/retirement benefits are great (suppose this is applies to all city employees) -Scheduled raises per union contracts are nice

Kontras

-Residency policy for city workers can make things difficult. Geographically Boston isn't that big and affordable places to live can be hard t come by -Archaic processes: a lot is still done manually on paper (what workplace this size still has paper timesheets?) -Employee development is non-existent and not a priority. -Has the lowest morale of any workplace I've ever seen. -Many managers are clearly unqualified for their roles. Competent managers are more focused on their legacy/image than on their teams and employees. -Union leadership is on a power trip and use this to protect bad employees from being held accountable. This does nothing to help the stereotype of "lazy public sector workers" -Working here generally killed my ability to enjoy the library as a city resident, so if you love the library don't work there.
