Pros

As a current Mutt, I find BlogMutt to offer a very flexible work schedule for freelance writers with no strict deadlines unless the client will expire soon. Writers can choose clients and topics. Writers invoice BlogMutt and get paid on time. The opportunity to work everyday or occasionally are a tremendous blessing. Very helpful writers and BlogMutt staff in the forum section. Easy to apply and be accepted. If you have small errors, they are willing to work with you.

Kontras

The tone of communications with people (in the forum) is discouraging, which is why you will not see as many minorities participating. Additionally, the staff needs to consider their tone of voice within emails and correspondences concerning issues. Sometimes, I never even get a response back from support. You are forced to use the forum at times. I understand that staff is very busy. However, timely and professional communications can help prevent negative reviews. Some staff members are very nice, while others need a Diversity 101 course. My suggestion (if you are a person of color): Do not post your photo on your profile. You will benefit much more with the forum responses and such. BlogMutt makes a killing off of its writers. If a client pays $25 per 350-word article, the writer makes $10.50 while BlogMutt pockets the remainder. Same with higher word-count assignments.

Pros

There’s plenty of work, the pay is great once you reach higher levels. (I average about $25-30 per hour.) Management is very responsive to any questions or concerns you have over specific clients. Once you reach higher levels you get cool rewards like a t-shirt, LinkedIn group access, and stocks in the company. For those who are complaining their account was suspended...the only explanation is that they must have not been a strong writer. BlogMutt only accepts 5% of writers who apply which I love since that leaves more work for the “regulars” on the site. Overall it’s a great company with a bright future and I’m happy to be apart of it!

Kontras

There are times when I wish I could speak to a client directly for more info on exactly what they want. BlogMutt doesn’t allow writer to client conversation at all. I wish there were far more “deadline” topics available to claim.

Pros

It's one of the higher paying writing gigs They pay weekly if you want or just when you submit your invoices There is no pressure to write for certain clients You can pick the articles you want to write You can write on your own time Easy to use Management does seem to look for ways to improve the process for its writers. I've spoken to many writers that make all their money through Blogmutt, so it is possible to eventually make enough money to live off of it. You have to level up to get the higher-paying articles, but ti worth the struggle. I've only had 10% of my articles rejected and only two of those I couldn't use for other clients. All the other ones, I submitted to new clients and sold them.

Kontras

You only get paid if a client takes the article you write. If the client already has a lot of articles in their queue you probably won't get paid for your article for several months. Some clients reject articles a lot, so writers often avoid them. If you are new you should avoid them too. If you want to make this a regular job you need to write often and eventually, you'll start getting paid every week, since you have so many articles out. If a client does reject your article, you can send it to another client.
