Pros
Union job (Teamsters local 853). Ok pay.
Kontras
Job is unstable at best, they hire when they get new business and then lay off when they lose business. There's a huge mandatory bi weekly deduction of your pay by the Teamsters for a retirement healthcare program "RSP." It's a $480.00 deduction monthly and the price has no cap, so it rises as more people retire etc. And there's no refund on the money you've paid into it if you get laid off or quit. So for a young person you'll be paying $480.00 extra a month for an old person to have "RSP" and eventually you'll find a better job or Berkeley Farms will lay you off and you will lose all that money you've paid. It is honestly a terrible group of guys to work with, all their customers hate them. Berkeley Farms is a Bay Area company but i don't know where the employees come from because they do not reflect the mellow but upbeat mentality of the Bay Area at all. Aside a small minority, most of the employees try to gain points with management by back stabbing or setting up their fellow co-worker. It's a terrible moral and culture in there. The Teamsters Union see this ignorance and lack of unity amongst the Berkeley Farms employees and take advantage of them at every single contract negotiation and use every trick to make them pay into more useless plans etc. Most of the senior employees at Berkeley Farms would have been rightfully fired at any non union job but the Teamsters are almost always able to save you, which they do so because they are making so much free money off of you. Do yourself a favor and if you do work here treat it like a temporary job and get a better job at the first chance you get. Do not try to settle in with the company, the company does not care about you and in this case the Teamsters don't even care about this group of people and why should they? The employees do not even care about each other. Aside all those issues Berkeley Farms is struggling as a company to compete with their competitors. You've been advised.
