Pros
- This is a company that doesn't just say that it is mission-driven. It *is* mission-driven. It helps that the mission is inspiring and we really are making a difference in the world. - The leaders here are absolutely wonderful. They're kind, approachable, smart. They put a lot of trust in every individual and give product teams a lot of autonomy while still doing a good job steering the ship. - Great innovative product and super engaged customer base. - Benchling has decent diversity compared to other companies in the Bay Area. It's definitely a very inclusive environment. - The culture here is somewhat academic, which has its pros and cons. Tons of people with PhDs and just generally a lot of really nerdy and brilliant folks from all over. - I'd say benefits and perks are above average and the SF office is pretty awesome. Tons of great snacks, fun events, etc.
Kontras
- Very meeting-heavy culture. Not unusual for a PM to spend 20+ hours a week in meetings. Async communication is lacking a bit. For in-office employees, probably not as much of an issue. But for remote folks, not sure how they manage to stay in the loop! - Based on other reviews, seems like other departments have some major issues; this isn't really felt in Build (Product , Engineering, Design & Strategy) but is obviously something the company needs to solve.
