Fantastic upper management. Going great places. Have always been supportive through tough times.

Kontras

The 24/7 operation can be hard but that goes with the business.

Pros

- Most employees and some managers are totally awesome people that just want to do good for the world - weekly lunches are fun, company is getting the hang of employee events - company espouses social values

Kontras

- Very different employee experience depending on what teams you get to work with. - Account list does not reflect company values. Employees get no say on what kind of clients they serve. - sometimes underpays so badly that the disparity is very obvious and awkward - masking high turnover/poor retention by saying the company is "scaling" - Seems almost impossible to get training or credentials for career advancement. no standard training budget, opaque financials. - "my way or the highway" attitude from some upper management. Very dramatic people. - Some middle management are "yes men" that don't like to advocate for themselves or their team - Big workload, not enough training time, very few perks

Pros

Athena Software has a pretty great culture, it's a very friendly and accepting place with people who want to do good in the world. It's nice to work in a place where people are genuinely concerned with helping people through the work they do. Athena has a great location in Uptown Waterloo. It's close to everything and easy to get to on transit. There are some incredible people who work at Athena Software, they are the driving force behind the operation, are always willing to help out and are good at what they do. They also want to help you do your best work. As a nice bonus, Athena provides lunch once a week.

Kontras

Athena wants to be a leader in their field but seem too tentative try things that aren't being done by competitors or other companies locally. They're also experiencing some growing pains. With new processes being implemented there's an increase in bureaucracy and politics which sometimes seem to interfere with the focus of the organization. Currently driving the organization is quite a conservative and rigid CEO. If your views don't match his on an issue, there is no room for discussion.
