Pros

Some of the people are great to work with. If you're in sales, you'll be highly valued as executive management lets the sales team do just about anything they want

Kontras

For anyone considering working for Ascentis, I implore you to avoid this company at all costs. Sort the reviews by date and read all the negative reviews going back to November 2015. Isn't it funny that just about any time there is a negative review or two, they are immediately followed up with glowing positive reviews? And they almost directly address the negatives that were pointed out or dismiss them as inconsequential? Use the ratings trend feature on glassdoor. Are you seeing that gigantic drop in ratings? You'll also notice that Ascentis is listed as an "engaged employer". It definitely appears that they are engaged in trying to suppress the ugly truth from coming out about the state of their company. You really don't want to work for a company that does shady things like this. The other negative reviews are absolutely spot on, so pay attention to those if you're considering working at Ascentis. The CEO, DJ, is all about driving revenue without increasing headcount. Teams have to beg, grovel, and plead with DJ to add resources but most of the time are simply told "review your current processes to look for efficiency gains", over and over again until it's too late and the current team is buried in an unrecoverable hole. Employees are actively talking with each other about how miserable they are and when they'll start looking for other jobs. Upper management likes to pretend that it's "an established company with a startup culture", implying that it's fun, casual, laid back, etc. Don't be fooled by that, as it's just talk and in reality employees will not have the time to engage in any "fun" activities normally associated with startups due to being overworked.

Thank you for your feedback. I would like to address several of your points. 1) Sales is a very key part of our organization and our success. I'm proud to say that we have a very talented and effective Sales organization. They are responsible for a key part of our exceptional growth and for the dollars they bring in to invest in our business. They will also be the first to say (and have said many times in our company meetings) that it's a team effort and their jobs are made so much easier by the efforts and investments we make in all the other areas of the company. 2) We have more than doubled our headcount and employee base in the last four years. A majority of that headcount have gone in areas that are NOT Sales. In fact, our Sales organization has done an amazing job of driving scale in their area to achieve/exceed the goals we have. Our investments in people have gone in the areas of Services, Support, Development, etc. 3) We absolutely have a goal to continue to grow our business without adding unnecessary headcount. I have seen so many companies bloat their headcount to the point where they lose what's defined them, they lose their collaborative nature and they eventually layoff staff due to what they call "right sizing". We are attempting to take a different approach that will continue to reward our clients, our employees and our shareholders (which includes all our employees who share in the reward of our success). We have a simply approach to this - First think about and drive scale, efficiency, automation, elimination of process that add value, etc. - and then add headcount. That approach allows us to effectively support our rapidly growing business with the proper headcount. 4) Our approach, culture and style is not for everyone. I know you noted looking at the recent reviews which also has many very positive reviews. I would also suggest we look at the reviews of current employees versus former employees which may provide a different perspective. We continue to, however, strive to be better as there are many opportunities to make us even greater than we are. I would offer to anyone that has a question about this, to talk to me directly. One of our greatest assets is we are a very open door and transparent organization.

Pros

Benefits are decent. Many teams still have good and hard-working people that want to succeed.

Kontras

Unless you are desperate for a job, do not work here! The product is incredibly outdated and while there has been a significant investment in the product, it is so far behind the times any improvements will never catch-up to be something competitive. Clients consistently tell you they were sold a Cadillac and were delivered a Pinto. Sales has to be deceptive for any sales to occur and then the client is stuck with something that barely works for them until they live out their contract. Executive Management touts 'Cultural Norms' which look great on paper but they themselves do not follow them. Unless you are a buddy to the 'leadership' team in the Minneapolis area, your career opportunities will be limited. Do you think hard work and dedication will provide a pay-for-performance environment with promotion opportunities? Nope. Each year during Performance Review season, Directors are given a small bucket of money to disperse - if you are liked, you get more. If you aren't liked, you'll be lucky to get 1-2% but they'll promise to make it up to you in coming years. That never actually happens. Over the past couple years, revenue has significantly decreased - both with new business and renewals. Clients are leaving as soon as their contract is up. Unless there are significant changes, many suspect this company will be bankrupt within the next 5 years.

We appreciate you sharing your perspective and are disappointed to hear the views you have on the company. We are on an ongoing journey to continuously nurture a strong employee culture, improve our solutions and strengthen client relationships and by and large, the outcomes have been very positive. We are excited about the progress we’ve made with our Products which shows in our solid sales performance. We’ve seen a 40% increase in quarter over quarter sales in 2019. Feedback at our annual client conference two months ago confirmed that clients too are seeing great progress in our solutions and continuing to grow their relationships with us. We are proud of our NPS score increasing by 27 points over the past year. We’ve continued to grow our teams and client base significantly through three strong acquisitions over the past nine months. We are proud of the recognition of our Minneapolis office recently received as a Best Places to work. We are equally proud of the fact that we’ve recognized 17 employees through major promotions this past year, of which 82% of all promotions were for employees working outside of the Minneapolis office. We know building a great enduring company is an ongoing process and would welcome further discussions on your thoughts and ideas on how we can continue to improve.
