Pros

tl;dr, If you get an an invitation to explore joining Armory in any capacity, you would do yourself a great justice to explore the opportunity! We are building a truly refreshing and unique organization that will undoubtedly be a future multi-billion dollar success story! After 12+ year in enterprise software sales, I began an exhaustive search at the beginning of the year in search of the "perfect" software company to call my next, and hopefully, final home. I stress the description of home as one of the most important qualities I was seeking was one that either had, or was building a truly remarkable culture. Here at Armory, one of our three core tenants is all about building our corporate culture that is built on trust, and we consider ourselves to be part of the "Tribe". You will often hear our founders say "the culture of a company is its operating system." Take a look at the blogs on our web site to learn more. And in my first four months, I can confirm that we all walk the talk and is not just lip service , unlike so many other software companies. The second pillar which was critical in my search related to the technology itself. Let's be honest, it is a hyper competitive landscape out there , no matter what sector one competes. Having been in the DevOps space for 8+ years, and more specifically Continuous Delivery, Armory made a genius strategic decision to provide an enterprise grade platform that extends Open Source Spinnaker. In case you are not familiar with Spinnaker, it is becoming the de facto standard in Continuous Delivery that was first developed by Netflix, then Google for support of Kubernetes, and open-sourced in 2015. Every cloud provider (with the exception of IBM) is actively supporting and contributing to Spinnaker. When speaking to prospects, we stress thee important aspects of Why Spinnaker? 1) It is battled tested, i.e. Do you want to be like Netflix, and other DevOps leaders such as Capital One, Cerner, Target, etc? This isn't your new shinny toy, some barely known software company created, and/or only a few actual companies have implemented successfully in production. To see what CD tools are being used, check out devstats.cd.foundation and it lists several tools. You can then search by Company Statistics by Repository Group 2) The community is contributing to Spinnaker at an exponential rate, and in this day and age of software, companies would do themselves a disservice relying on a closed, proprietary platform from a single software company; thus creating vendor lock-in. There are too many third-party integrations that need to be built, and updated to keep up with the pace of innovation . Armory builds on top of OSS Spinnaker and even provides a Managed Service option to reduce overhead. We are the fourth largest contributor to Spinnaker OSS and it feels great working for a company that is giving back to the developer code base. 3) Our obsession of customer success which is another one of our our core tenants. One our our co-founders, Ben Mappen, leads this team and I have never seen a software company just doing the right thing for its install base, rather than making a buck. The final must-have I was seeking in a company was financial stability or positive outlook. Too many companies out there are way down the alphabet in their series funding. At Armory, we secured our Series B funding shortly after I signed on in, to the tune of $28M. In total transparency, we have a countdown clock to remind everyone how long we have until that is exhausted (don't worry...it is a long way out and continues to extend with every net-new logo that we rejoice on being part of our family) but greatly appreciate the importance of us all dedicated to investing our dollars as wisely as possible. After interviewing with 30+ companies , from the largest names known, to start-ups that had less people than in my immediate family, I can unequivocally share that joining Armory was the best decision I could have made. Our founders are beyond awesome and are dedicated to building Armory to its fullest potential and dedicated to the long run. There are so many other incredible aspects to this company, but I will let others share those since this is the inaugural review on Glassdoor. P.S. Our third core value is that we are data and empathy-driven. Feel free to visit the company website as I did to learn more.

Kontras

Not a con, as I have not experienced one yet. In all honestly, I was cautious of joining a start-up at this point of my career. However, the experience of our leadership, and everyone across the board, makes this feel like a well oiled machine which is primed to conquer the Continuous Delivery space. We still have to fine tune our processes, methodologies and typical GTM strategies, but that is the fun of being on the ground floor of something special.

Thanks for the review! You bring up good points about how scaling always has its pain points. Although we won't ever be perfect in our approach, we'll always strive for continuous improvements and fine-tuning for our people, product, and impact.

Pros

The people at armory that I worked day-to-day with were phenomenal. Good compensation during the pandemic. Remote-first made work very flexible.

Kontras

Limited funds to have face-to-face meetups, lack of product direction in an undefined market, sometimes to many cooks in the kitchen.
