Kontras
AltSource being a rather flat company, I found the guidance I received during my short time there unclear and at times even contradictory. Management encouraged me to feel free to ask questions of anyone at any time, yet my mentor actively discouraged me from asking him questions because he thought them a waste of his time. The emphasis on serving the client, impressed even on new AltSource developers, allows for only a shortsighted approach to exploration of new technologies. I felt a lot of pressure to learn a new technology only to the minimum required to get a project done, which left no time for any focus on training that would equip me for long-term success as a software developer. The training I received in their incubator program also offered no tolerance for the mistakes necessary for true long-term learning, especially for those entering software engineering from another career. If you can't handle the stress of working in a fast-paced environment with unclear guidance on what to do and how to do it, AltSource is not the place for you.
