Pros

My experience was so terrible on the CS team, no pros come to mind. Oh, I have one: leaving AlertMedia to work in a truly remote tech company with a 15% comp increase and 50% fewer customers in my book of business was the best thing I ever did!

Kontras

Challenges of working at AlertMedia on the Customer Success team include: - Undeveloped "leadership" (promoting high-performing individual contributors can be great, but if they don't have the skills to be a people manager it is BAD. That's what happened here: my boss was a fun mix of controlling/micro-managing personality and no leadership development training) - No job security (good people to work with get fired unexpectedly and without explanation to the team... You never know who could be next) - Pay is under market value with no room to negotiate during hiring process - Unrealistic workload. 120 accounts and all of their renewals and risks are on your plate and churn is your fault. This is especially hard because internal turnover is so high that it's an uphill battle to have to constantly research newly assigned accounts and take the blame when you were set up to fail. - Even if you're hired as remote or hybrid, if you don't come into the shiny $$$ downtown office every day you will be treated as "less than"

Thank you for your feedback. We are disappointed that you did not have a positive experience as many other employees do. Our employees are genuinely happy and have fun with one another – that’s real and we are really proud we can create an environment where people enjoy coming to work. We were remote, as much of the world was, during the height of Covid-19 pandemic. We are excited to now be in a hybrid environment to allow our teams options to work from home and come to the office to collaborate cross-functionally, train together and have fun with their fellow colleagues. Over the past 2 years we have doubled the size of our Company, dramatically increased our customer base and in turn, our Customer Success area has grown tremendously. We do provide each of our customers an exceptional experience and have worked hard this year to ensure this is happening by creating new teams and roles within Customer Operations, such as our Community CS team and Implementation. This has also helped us ensure work is balanced across our employees. We have established Customer Success career paths to help our employees understand how they continue to grow and are proud to say that several of our employees have been promoted into and throughout our CS organization. These many improvements have enabled us to continue to retain and invest in our talented employees. We wish you the best in your future endeavors.

Pros

Nice office, catered lunch on Tuesdays, good product

Kontras

The culture has changed drastically as the company gets closer to a sale. There’s a noticeable disconnect between executives and employees as leadership operates in its own bubble and doesn’t seem concerned with paying people fairly. As you’ll see in other reviews, the salaries are laughably below market (especially for Austin) and that feedback is not new. Leadership is aware, but with a potential sale on the horizon, it feels like the priority is maximizing profit rather than investing in employees. Promotions without salary increases happen here, which is frustrating. A title change with more responsibility and no additional compensation isn’t actually a promotion. Growth in general is very slow and not a real priority. The Learning & Development team does what they can, but “growth” here mostly looks like leadership trainings and courses that don’t lead to new opportunities or better pay. It just ends up being more work with no tangible benefits. Micromanagement exists at nearly every level, and there’s a heavy focus on optics. Being in the office and “seen” by execs often seem to matter more than the actual quality or impact of your work. Some managers tend to focus on things that don’t really move the needle. The lack of diversity in the Austin office is noticeable, and some of the DEI efforts come across as performative. There have been situations where concerns, specifically from minority employees, don’t feel like they’re taken seriously, which adds to the disconnect. Overall, it’s a fine place to start your career, but not somewhere you’ll grow or be paid competitively.
