Pros

I have worked in the content and marketing department at Alaska Structures for nearly two years, and can say that this has been one of the most challenging (in a good way) and professionally rewarding jobs I’ve ever had. My responsibilities require me to do a lot of research about the commercial industries we manufacture buildings for, as well as gaining a deep knowledge of our structures and their systems. It’s really benefitted my career to develop tricks for finding specific information and details that aren’t readily available, especially for niche industries that don’t get much promotion online. I have also had the opportunity to work closely with Alaska Structures’ search engine optimization specialists on the marketing team, and their insight has really helped make my work get the traction and visibility I feel it deserves. The individuals in management whom I’ve worked with have been really helpful and communicate their needs pretty well. The office is beautiful, and it’s dog-friendly, which I love even though I don’t have a pet at this time. The pay and benefits are great, as well!

Kontras

It can be difficult at times to get the technical information I need to develop the content I’m working on, but I’ve found that persistence works!

Pros

You'll work very hard for what you get. The CEO is actually a really awesome guy.

Kontras

To start with the low hanging fruit, you qualify for 0 days off your first year, and 5 whole days off your second year. Also no parental leave. There is also 0 Room for advancement and the single worst retention I have ever seen at a company. As of this writing, there is only 1 salesperson left. The VP of sales is completely lost as a leader and has no idea what they are doing leading a sales team. Goals are set arbitrarily (Example: 2024 revenue was down 40% YOY from 2023, but the 2025 goal was set at double the 2024 numbers with no plan on how that would be achieved). There is 0 transparency on team performance throughout the year. This manifests in the guidance that's given out which is just be on the phone more. Leadership will consistently tell you that the only way to build your book is to cold call, but they themselves convert and close virtually 0 outbound each year (Because they have first shot at the inbounds). Because they don't actually do what they tell you to do, they have no idea how to guide you to success in it nor can they tell you who you should be calling. There is no plan or strategy in place, no target accounts, etc. Truly the whole process is: Go find markets for these products. That's it. No further guidance (again because they don't have guidance to give.) The tech stack is non-existent meaning that even if you want to take their advice, you will have a hard time getting contacts to call and will live with 3-5% connect rates. Also, Support staff is regularly reallocated to run personal errands for the VP making them unavailable for sales related activity like list building. Even when they are available, the company won't pay for upgraded Zoominfo credits, so the support staff is literally handcopying call lists from ZI Lol... What this all results in is a company that is completely dependent on inbound leads, but because they all filter through the VP who is still actively selling, the sales team is directly competing with their boss for business. The leader also encouraged us to lie to prospects on a regular basis. I would recommend that everyone stays as far away from this place as possible. Overall, people at this company really don't care and you will have to fight tooth and nail to get things done. This is truly a sinking ship.
