Pros
AccessMatters does a great job at hiring (non-management) staff. Their non-management staff are some of the most talented, passionate, and brilliant people I have ever met. The benefits are mostly good (PTO, tuition reimbursement, FSA).
Kontras
There are so many cons I will not be able to list them all here. Most of management, especially those in the Health Access and Service Delivery department, view their staff as producers, and not humans. I kept a running list of things my boss did that were offensive, immoral, or illegal. Management has a history of not promoting talented and qualified People Of Color, even though they claim to be anti-racist. AccessMatters is very "top-heavy," they have a lot of individuals in managerial positions and few individuals on the ground, doing the important work. Management weaponizes "trauma-informed" to manipulate and gaslight their staff. AccessMatters had to bring in a therapist to deal with the effects of staff being disrespected. It's too bad the leadership team does not listen to the recommendations the therapist offers to improve workplace conditions. Other departments that are not client-facing are less toxic, but these issues are pervasive across the company. The turnover rate is absolutely wild. I had a conversation with HR where I let them know that my (former) supervisor was *abusive,* and their response was to offer my supervisor a different job within the organization. If you are in client-facing work, I would strongly recommend you look elsewhere for employment. The work AccessMatters does is great, but the management does not value their staff and treats Union Members like the enemy. I wish I had read and listened to the Glassdoor reviews before accepting a job here, it would have saved me a lot of pain, tears, and energy.
