Pros
For any technical background there is a job at ASML. Projects are ranging from sensor physics, to imaging optics to plasma physics. Here physicists, chemists, material scientists, electrical, mechanical and optical engineers are working together on numerous fascinating projects to build next generation lithography scanners for semiconductors industry. Matrix, rather than hierarchical structure of the company, ensures efficient interaction between managers and tech people and the boundaries between traditional managers and technical project leads are usually very blurry. In it's core ASML is a pure R&D company that develops and integrates the most recent technologies in the the most advanced lithography equipment in the world. As I'm concerned, you can never get bored at ASML by doing exactly the same job again and again. With my natural interest in science and technology, ASML projects always makes my brain ticking.
Kontras
Financial rewards are bound to the collective employee agreement, which means that by staying at ASML, the salary will not grow very fast. If you were an engineer at ASML, the search for another job within the industry poses a very peculiar question: "Am I a manager or an engineer". Unless you were involved in some of the competency branches within ASML (mechatronics, electronics, optical and imaging modelling), you know a little bit of everything, but not very good at anything in particular. In other words, you know that bicycle needs two wheels, frame, handlebar and a pair of cranks, but you have no experience in designing any of these components separately, even though you know how exactly to specify them.
