Pros
- You are apart of a worker's union, which seems to have it's benefits, though I've yet to use any of them (they negotiated the wage contract, etc.). It is the highest paid EMT - B job in this area, starting at $14.17/hr - Benefits, 401K, etc.
Kontras
Like other EMT jobs, you work with different people often and your partner could be hit or miss. There seems to be a lot of variance in the quality of colleagues - some have very sharp skillsets when it comes to being an EMT, communicating, etc. And others are lacking. The majority of my co-workers are straight, white males - some very homophobic, racist, uneducated - and could use a course or two in the ways of dealing with marginalized populations, to say the least. Which is difficult to learn and witness considering the role of the first responder and the vast array of people EMT's encounter and treat/transport on the daily. The company right now is restricting the amount of overtime as much as possible to save $.
