Pros
Money and prestige... Until the government bailout.
Kontras
Work/Life balance and poor communication. Even before any of the recent issues with AIG became apparent, the company had always had poor communication between Directors & Vice Presidents, and different departments. By the time their messages get down the line, department supervisors are giving out information to their individual departments that is conflicting with what other supervisors are giving theirs. In addition, AIG has been restructuring for quite a while now, and each month that goes by it becomes more and more unlikely that any vacation time will ever be approved. I understand the company needs it's employees there as much as possible, but having to schedule a week off a year in advance is not always possible. Life happens, and sometimes six months advance is the most you can give for a life event. If one cannot have a life working for AIG, the one should consider not working for AIG.
