Pros
AARP is an organization full of diverse people, departments and available positions. The people in my team and those that work with us are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. In short I love how organized my job is; I don't have to worry about policies changing every other day like I had to at jobs in the past. At AARP I have found that if you apply yourself you can get ahead, or at least get more projects and define your strengths. I have taken advantage of free internal training programs which have assisted me in growing my skill set, an invaluable asset for the future.
Kontras
Some of the downsides to work at AARP include finding ways to follow through on our non-standard objectives. For instance, projects that are routine get completed fine; however, projects which are non-standard and sometimes very important are viewed and treated as complicated and optional. Working within the RACI model of corporate responsibility also proves challenging, although I don't know what I would prefer to this system. As with any job, work at AARP has snags and bumps along the way but is overall very satisfactory.
