Pros

They offer a good starting salary and like an ugly girl at last-call, call look good in low light.

Kontras

Toxic, toxic, toxic. Very high turn-over. In my immediate department, during my short employment span, there was a 33% turnover rate. I would be willing to bet it is at least that company-wide, lower-level. The company is very divided in the way upper management runs each main department, then and even more-so within the departmental level leadership. If you work here you must have a thick skin because when upper management is not present, you will most likely be scolded like a dog, in front of everyone in your department, based on the mood of the supervisor & how threatened they feel by your work performance, or how irritated they are with hearing you talk on the phone (work related), or hearing you type, or walk when you wear shoes that make a noise different than a tennis-shoe. It's nuts what is allowed to happen in lower level departments. Those who have the traits and education to lead, aren't given the opportunity, only the "yes" men/women. It's very likely that you will get stuck in an entry level position working for a low-level supervisor who happened to be in the right place, at the right time, to secure that position, instead of on actual merit. One would think that person would take the initiative to educate themselves on their shortcomings so they would have the tools needed to lead. Nope. And if you choose to put in the extra effort to learn & promote job efficiency you will be ostracized for not being part of the stagnant "team". Don't shine here, be prepared to exist in managed chaos, listening to how much your unqualified supervisor hates their supervisors. It is a little amusing to see the change in behavior when upper management comes through though. It's generally a gripe-fest, super toxic. They do an excellent job of putting lipstick on that pig with the "talent acquisition" team though. Maybe they will get it together some day.

Pros

- Decent people - Pay isn't too bad at certain levels (However, it could be better) - Challenging projects - OK work life balance

Kontras

- Horrific culture of communication when you want to speak with higher ups - Too many people in certain positions because of who they know (& or who they are nice to) rather than what they've done - Revolving door at many positions (PM's, Estimators, Business Development, & even execs.). They will fire you & even find ways to withhold unemployment. - Bad procedures on how to do the job. - Your job title won't be the only thing you're tasked with doing as an estimator. - Too many meetings and off-site distractions - They don't pay or treat subs well (Which is why many of them blackball the company) - They don't like it when you take your vacation all at once (Even if you've earned it). - Hand out write ups like candy. - Can be very pushy on the church side of things.

Pros

Very good at selling themselves to potential employees

Kontras

- 100% travel for sub-par pay - Zero per diem for lodging or food. They only pay for the cheapest, dirtiest rooms they can find. -Stuck living in a nasty hotel for 8-10 months at a time. - They balk at any time at home from the job, - You have to upgrade vehicle insurance and its reimbursed over the course of a year. - Poorly trained, argumentative office staff who don't know how to build and refuse to listen to those who do. - Hires the cheapest subs, so there's A LOT of rework. - High turnover rate. - Allotted holidays are only for office staff. Field staff required to work 12-18 hrs a day, and 7 days a week if subs want to work or there's a weather delay. - PMs will call you at all hours of the night Constant Teams meetings for absolutely anything. - Fuel and expense reimbursement is slow. Have to remind them constantly. - No job trailers. Work out of your truck. - Claim to be Christians. Treat field staff like 2nd class citizens. - Many subs refuse to do any work for them. Slow pay. Impossible schedules. - Shortcuts taken on every phase of work.
