Great people, but only plan on working there until management decides to do the next mass purge of staff - Software Engineer bei 2Checkout: Mitarbeiterbewertung

NOTE: I'm a developer/software engineer, so this entire review is from that point of view. The points below may or may not impact other departments in the company directly, but I believe it's still important for all to know what's going on behind the scenes. During it's history as a company, 2Checkout has repeated the same cycle multiple times: pick a direction to go as far as technology goes, do it for anywhere between one and two years and then drop it like a hot potato and pick a completely new direction. Nearly every time this happens, there is a mass layoff. You can almost figure out when the previous direction changes/layoffs happen as the reviews go from 4 or 5 star "This place is great" reviews to 1 or 2 star "This is where dreams go to die" or "This place is a dumpster fire" reviews. It is a complete waste of time and money to put so much hard work into a long-term (1 year+ project) and then just stop, dump the talent that really just got going and then start on something completely new. I personally don't have enough insight to know where this direction is coming from, but everything I have heard makes it sound like it is coming from the current board of directors. During the last round of layoffs, there were over 40 people laid off right before Thanksgiving with very little advance warning, small severance package, and health insurance benefits only lasting until the end of the month. I understand sometimes layoffs are a harsh reality of the current economy, but at least they could have considered treating the team members they were letting go as real people and either extended benefits until after the holidays or maybe even helping place those impacted in other jobs. What a thought - treating employees as human beings.
