    Nicoll Curtin in Zurich is by a landslide the least professional company in existence. If one could take moment mean imagine the worst possible place to work: cowboy management, zero culture, no perks, longest working hours expected, no care for the individual, being asked why you are going to the toilet and spending 5 minutes when you can be on the phone and calling candidates! Oh yeah, a smelly dog is running... around the office while the policy says no animals allowed!!! There is much much more to say when it comes to the negatives, tbh the list would potentially never end. Someone else wrote a review here on Glassdoor which is 100% accurate, see below: “The worst company I have ever worked for. No company culture of caring about the employees. It 100% focused on KPIs, the minutes you were on the phone, in the toilet and BD even if that wasn't in your job description. I felt uncomfortable and dreaded going to work. It was unsupportive with the worst management. The work hours are a complete lie as you were watched if you left on time.”

    Pros

    Most Glassdoor reviews are posted by employees who have recently left a company and want to publicly air their grievances. This review is the exact opposite. I worked as a recruitment consultant for Nicoll Curtin in Zurich for over two years and had an exceptionally positive experience and left only very reluctantly. The consultants are all friendly, easy-going, and hard-working. The level of camaraderie is... very high. It is a great mix of people – many nationalities, many different levels of experience in recruitment. Everyone is quick to share leads and support one another. There is a lot of positive synergy, which is not the case in many recruitment agencies. The management does an excellent job of providing an outstanding platform for individual consultants to grow their networks. There are ample opportunities to both manage key accounts and develop new accounts. New hires without industry experience are given lots of training and support, and veteran recruiters are given freedom to build their business within the business. There is not an obsession with KPIs but rather a focus on end results. Consultants are not micromanaged but rather treated as adults. If a consultant struggles for a period, he or she is given additional support and a very generous amount of time to find his or her footing again. Again, this is unusual by industry standards, since most agencies are quick to terminate someone as soon as results begin to dip. The compensation is highly competitive. The commission structure is impossible to beat in Zurich, and the base pay, while historically lower than large agencies, has been steadily rising. Consultants have the ability to earn whatever sort of targets they set for themselves; the sky truly is the limit since there is no cap on commission. The office is impressive: new, bright, well appointed, spacious, and is conveniently located in the heart of Zurich. Consultants are very proud to invite candidates and clients to the office for face to face discussions. Support staff in Zurich is incredibly competent, professional, and truly enthusiastic about helping the recruiters. Because of this excellent operational support, recruiters are able to focus on their sales tasks and don't have to devote time unnecessarily to administrative issues. All these ingredients add up to a wonderful place to work, whether you are new to the industry or a veteran recruiter. As a point of proof, the staff retention rate is excellent. In short, at the Nicoll Curtin office in Zurich you’ll find great recruiters earning great pay led by great managers and backed by a great brand.

    A few consultants (and I was included in this group) aren't German speakers (not a massive con anyway), but most recent hires have been German speakers and that is supposed to be a higher priority moving forward.

    - Excellent career progression plan. From day one you receive full support from the management and excellent training program which help you develop quicker than in other recruitment companies. It does not matter how old you are or how long you have been in the business, you have the opportunity to develop and to decide which path you want your career to go. - Very competitive base salaries and excellent commission... scheme. - Knowledgeable management with proven track record in the recruitment business. - Beautiful spacious office in the centre of Zurich (free coffee, tea, breakfast, fruit) - The company provides lots of incentives if you perform well (flexi time, monthly/quarterly events, paid business trips, high flyers trips etc.)

    Some friendly, experienced / competent, and very driven / ambitious people working there Benefits / social events / rewards for high achievers Great new office - office environment is top, plus location If you fit into that environment and deliver, you can progress rapidly International, young team, generally smart and friendly people Great for someone with a range of language skills Really great Head of... Learning and Development who takes the time to make sure people understand the material covered and knows how to encourage people Possibility to shape where company is going (Relatively flat hierarchy)

    (Management) seems to be under very high pressure to deliver results very quickly A few people (from the same team) were fired, within a short time span Whilst I cannot judge this, it has been said that the CEO - despite all the positive points - has no or very little idea of recruitment (Some people in the team seem quite stressed - even if it’s not noticeable at first sight or some won’t admit it) Some... conflicting views between key stakeholders on how to best train new employees Pressure to deliver / fast moving environment leads to other cons that are obviously interconnected - quantity vs. quality as a general point of criticism for recruitment agencies - however, v. competitive industry so hard to balance People used to a very ‘Swiss / structured’ way of working or have worked in completely different environments may not feel comfortable here - always depends though Being consistently caring / detail-oriented might be incompatible with the work environment at times Not sure if co. mn. truly / fully realizes that what works in the UK / in other areas won’t necessarily work in Switzerland + if ‘flattering candidates’ with IT / financial services background who are highly skilled and sought-after is possible in such a fast-paced environment

    You clearly put a lot of thought into this review so thanks for taking the time. I 100% agree when you say that if you fit into our environment and deliver you can progress rapidly. And also that it won't be for everyone. That's why we have a very rigorous hiring process to get the right match but unfortunately it's not infallible. I hope you can find an environment and style that suits you better

    Good sociable company, young and driven individuals. Driven MD with good track record. Training is very good here. Some really good motivators, pub clubs, lunch clubs,

    Pros

    Really focussed now the old MD departed a few years ago. Noticed one of the negative posts which talked up the old MD, who did nothing but cause chaos, suck money out of the company (mostly when it hadn’t performed well) and was never engaged with the business. New CEO is excellent and we are treated very well. There are no more “old MD” tantrums or suffering abuse after her long lunches. Well done Derek for... making the change. Proactive, energetic, inclusive culture now.

    Pros

    Great management in particular 2019 - there are great leaders at the moment coming from very different backgrounds and consultant at Nicoll Curtin have great opportunity to learn from the best. Not the typical recruitment company. Everyone in the business loves to help each other and the culture is very fun, outgoing and diverse. Freedome and autonomy, not hugely KPI driven, a lot of trust in employees, no... micromanagement, a lot of room for progression with clear guidelines on how to do so. Free fruit and cereal with a free bar on Friday at 4:30! Great incentives for nights out paid by Nicoll Curtin, high flyers opportunity, summer party, winter party, town halls. Very understanding management and will help you in every way that they can.
