    Pros

    Great coworkers.

    Lots of opportunities for personal development.

    High level of transparency. The company is very open about the successes and challenges we face.

    Working with a wide variety of products keeps things fresh.

    Kontras

    The 8:15-5 work schedule can be a bit of a sticking point for some people. I feel that a little more flexibility there would go a long way to attracting more job candidates and keeping more team members.

    This has been said many times before, but employee turnover.

    Pros

    1. Investment on employees - Everyone get funds to cover education/training anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000 per year.
    2. Strong and Stable financially - Products are sold in all mass retail stores : BestBuy, Costco, Walmart, Babies R Us, Buy Buy Baby etc.
    3. Opportunity of Growth - Employees can receive multiple promotions within few years, it's great to see employees jumping up the corporate ladder much faster in this company than other similar companies.
    4. Great co-workers - They conduct multiple interviews to ensure every new employee is a good fit. They will let go a very poor performer. The end result is that you get to work with awesome group of people.
     5. Region - You can live anywhere in St. Catherine or Niagara Falls and it won't take more than 10 minutes to drive to office. Peaceful region.
    6. Job Security - As long as employees are performing and co-operating there are no surprise terminations. With Performance Review that company have in place, it is much easier for employees to understand the possibility of termination much before it actually happens.

    Kontras

    1. Compensation - Low to Average range compensation. However, if you are great in your job you may get raise and promotion quite fast (1-2 years).
    2. Extra Hours - Many salaried employees need to put in extra hours to cover up for open/vacant positions. No overtime payment for salaried employees.
    3. Employee Shortage- There is always shortage of employee because of location. Sometimes one person is doing 2 people job hurts performance and work/life balance.
    4. Minimalist office space - No carpet floor or fancy vending machines; More like a warehouse feeling
    5. Aggressive company - Management is very passionate about business, and that translates to higher expectations from employees with aggressive approach from management to hold employees accountable. People with low ego and high performance tend to last longer.
    6. Bonuses - Some departments will never receive the bonus even though it may make up to 20% of their salary. So, if you have bonus line item in your offer letter, please ask your hiring manager in more detail. There are chances you will never see bonus during your tenure.

    Rat an das Management

    1. Change the vision from "We believe all people should be empowered." to "We believe all people should feel empowered." The difference in "be" and "feel" is huge. It requires less judgement from our side, and asking question to the people for empowering them.
    2. Move to Toronto area. Please open satellite office asap to accommodate growth and employee shortage. At this point, the only reason that is stopping growth is human resource, so it is very easy decision if you want exponential growth.
    3. Remote Working - Please make your work environment more flexible (similar to other tech companies) by allowing flexible remote working for some departments.
    4. Time Management - Managers need to hold themselves accountable for starting meetings on time. Many a times the meeting starts 5-10 minutes later than scheduled time, and sometimes it takes much longer than required. Need more focused meetings to boost productivity.

    Pros

    Benefits for full time employees, established company, paid training and courses, company events a few times a year.

    Kontras

    Micromanagement to a level that completely cripples the company's ability to do anything. No empowerment at all. Leadership does not lead by example (do what I say don't do what I do). Reviews are not done on time, some people have gone more than 2 years without a performance review or a cost of living increase let alone an actual raise. Lots of turnover.

    Rat an das Management

    Listen to your employees! Don't ask for their opinions and then be surprised when they are unhappy that you completely disregard what they have said. Bring your salaries up to at least average for comparable roles. Give staff the opportunity to develop, you can't grow into a leadership role if you have no ability to make a decision.

    - Good education fund.
    - Good and friendly co-workers.
    - Employee discounts are good.

    Kontras

    - Extremely low compensation. I have been here for almost 5 years and got promoted once, yet my salary has barely risen to be noticeable due to the huge rise in the cost of living. Take the median job salary on Payscale.com and minus 5-10k.
    - The owner(s) of the company have trust issues in their employees.
    - Bonuses are promised on interview but goals are kept secret. Goals are completely unrealistic. Expect to only reach 40-60% of your goal year after year.
    - The company always toutes the Dale Carnegie rules and learnings but it becomes clear when it comes to rewarding employees, they throw those concepts out the window.
    - Poor work life balance. Have to make up time when missed for appointments. Company says they have great work life balance because the business is not open on the weekend.
    - Very Political. Any inquiry you have about an issue, it gets addressed very broadly and you are told to refer to your manager for more details. Truth be told, managers know about the same as employees.
    - Frustrated managers because of company expectations trickles down to employees.
    - Building in need of a serious make-over and update

    - If you truly care about your employees. You will reward them with fair compensation. They are not a means to your end. The cost of living is rising and we are feeling the sting.
    - Please make corporate goals realistic
    - Update the building. Looking and beige and dirty white walls all day is excruciating .
    - Be nice to your employees and genuinely act interested in them.

    Pros

    -There has been an exodus of managers leaving, but the ones that remain are great

    - Owners do not trust employees on the duties they were hired for
    - Goals of departments are unrealistic, bonuses are promised during the interview but the unrealistic goals are not mentioned
    - Compensation is low and always stays below inflation. Compensation will only go up in small increments even if performance is considered "Great".
    - Work hours are not ideal
    - They claim to have work/life balance, but you will have to make up time if you go for a doctors appointment or have to go take care of your kids
    - Two brothers run the company, don't get along with anything. This causes a rift between departments and employees.
    - Products are mostly 1 to 1.5 years behind the market trend

    - Follow up on your promises and invest in employees. Do not just do the bare minimum. Do not confuse regular humane working conditions as "good work life balance"
    - Reward your employees with financial compensation not "Corporate events"
    - Consider being a union.

    -Lack of human capital and resources, unable to achieve all goals and projects to the level they can be.

    Some great people work here.

    Worst company and worst employer I've ever worked for. The business is family owned and the brothers can't seem to agree on anything. The tension is palpable whenever they're together and it makes for very awkward meetings.

    The older brother is extremely socially awkward, dishonest, and is completely out of touch with the real world. He micromanages to an extreme, sets unachievable goals and expectations, and has no respect for other people's time. Despite always asking for it, he doesn't value feedback and just uses it against you, so it's best to just smile and nod and keep your mouth shut. That's what most people in the company have learned to do. He doesn't trust his staff or listen to anyone's advice or strategies and then blames everyone for poor performance and declining sales, when he really only has himself to blame for his failing business.

    The company's mission is to "Create What's Different" but they do the complete opposite. They are focused on outdated policies and procedures that keep people from actually getting any work done. If you're literally just two minutes late, you're written up, but there is no appreciation for the hours you may spend working after end of day.

    There are a lot of good people who work there but turnover is extremely high. 80% of the staff I talked to wish they worked elsewhere but with not many options in the Niagara area, they feel stuck. The recruitment process also takes forever (several months of countless interviews) and there is no training. They also seem to favour younger and inexperienced workers who unfortunately don't know any better, all so they can manipulate them and use them as scapegoats when things go wrong.

    If you want to be a lemming who is overworked, undervalued, and underpaid, this is the place for you.

    Trust your staff, appreciate them more, treat them better, and let go of the reins sometimes.
