Pros
Industry experience, in a fast paced environment. That’s pretty much what you can walk away with.
Kontras
-Management lacks experience. -My manager was constantly on their phone/social media while they delegated all of the work. (Pretty ingenious because if you do very little work, you can blame your subordinates easily) -My manager constantly talked about how fellow coworkers are amateurs and lazy. When they made mistakes, we all suffered -Throughout the company you will often hear the phrase “Well I’m not doing that. That’s not my job. Which leads to the dedicated workers staying late and picking up all of the slack because they don’t want things to go by the wayside -You will come in early and stay late. The owners get mad if they see people leaving right at 6 -Professional growth is based on friendship with management. There is a huge “inner circle” culture -You will be berated for not knowing things. Even if you are relatively new to the industry -Constant gossip culture. Managers will whisper about you while you’re sitting right there. -No legitimate HR structure to protect employees from this toxicity. -Owners have very little oversight because they take several long vacations. Then they get mad when you didn’t involve them in a decision. -The owners have no trust for their employees. There are cameras throughout the office in workspaces and work from home is frowned upon because they assume nobody works. -COVID was absolutely mishandled during the worst of it. When asking for better office mask guidelines, we were often given the answer “it’s not that bad. We are all young, if you get it you won’t die” -Beware, you’re all part of the family, until you’re not
