There's a general lack of respect, common decency and kindness that interns and freelancers are treated with by full time employees and senior staff. You're disposable (which has been explicitly stated by a senior employee) and they treat you as such. Morale is low, and everything is life or death. It seems that because people are so unhappy with their own lives/jobs they treat everyone else they come into contact with miserably. No opportunity for advancement (even if they try to sell you under the guise that there are opportunities after hiring you as an intern or freelancer).
