Information Technology management and leadership can be hypocritical, blame-oriented, and discouraging to work under. In my experience, when communication or project management failed, employees were blamed instead of leadership taking responsibility. Employees were also blamed for management mistakes they had nothing to do with. The turnover seemed very high, and CalPERS felt largely empty during my time there, with many people appearing to leave soon after joining. Even when my code was clearly correct and working, leadership still claimed it was wrong. There also seemed to be a double standard around professionalism, where unacceptable behavior from others was tolerated, while defending my own work with evidence was treated as unprofessional.
